SATNAC 2025 Industry Solutions Challenge
Mobilising University Talent to Solve Real-World Industry Challenges through Structured Innovation
Overview

End-to-end design and management of a national innovation competition, bridging the gap between academic research and industrial application for South African university students.

The Challenge

The South African Telecommunication Networks and Applications Conference (SATNAC) required a partner to foster R&D and entrepreneurship among university students. The goal was to move beyond theoretical research by challenging students to solve complex, real-world problems provided by corporate sponsors, requiring a rigorous selection process, structured mentorship, and a competitive elimination framework.

The Solution

COOi Studios designed a multi-phased innovation journey, guiding 20 multidisciplinary student teams from problem identification to technical mock-up development. We managed the entire ecosystem, including masterclasses, weekly elimination rounds, and a comprehensive stakeholder communication strategy. The program culminated in a high-stakes finale event where finalists presented validated business cases and digital solutions to a panel of industry sponsors.

The Results

The project successfully nurtured a pipeline of high-potential talent, delivering industry-ready solutions for SATNAC sponsors.

By integrating social media marketing and PR alignment, we amplified the challenge's reach across South African institutions.

The final output provided sponsors with actionable innovation while providing students with essential entrepreneurial skills, successfully showcased at the prestigious SATNAC 2025 conference.
